1. Who you are agreeing with
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and GC Digital Solutions LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company, 30 N Gould St, STE R, Sheridan, WY 82801, USA (“we”, “us”, “our”). They govern your use of the Monk Journal mobile apps, their backend services and the website at monkjournal.app (together, the “Service”).
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your data. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. What Monk Journal is
Monk Journal is a self-tracking app for iOS and Android. It brings together a journal (entries, mood and energy, gratitude, reviews), workouts (training logs, programs, personal records and cardio routes), nutrition (food logs, barcode lookups, meal plans and targets), habits, goals and tasks, alarms, and MonkMode focus sessions. Features may change over time, as described in section 8.
3. Who can use Monk Journal
- You must be at least 13 years old, or older where the law of your country sets a higher minimum age for consent to data processing (for example 16 in some EU countries).
- You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live) to buy a subscription.
- You may only use the Service where doing so is lawful for you.
If we learn that an account belongs to someone below the required age, we will close it and delete its data. Parents and guardians can contact privacy@monkjournal.app.
Please give accurate sign-up information and keep it current. You are responsible for keeping your password and devices secure and for activity under your account. If you think someone else has accessed your account, contact support@monkjournal.app straight away.
4. Your content
Everything you put into Monk Journal, including journal entries, photos, mood logs, workouts, routes, meals, habits and goals, is your content and you own it.
To run the Service for you (store it, sync it across your devices, show it on screen, and prepare an export when you ask), you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to your content for the sole purpose of providing the Service to you. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from the short backup period described in our Privacy Policy.
We do not:
- use your content to train, fine-tune or improve any AI model, ours or anyone else’s;
- sell your content;
- share it with anyone except the service providers named in our Privacy Policy, and only as needed to run the Service;
- use it in marketing without your separate, explicit permission.
You are responsible for your content and must have the right to upload it. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without any obligation to you.
5. Subscriptions and payments
Monk Journal has a free tier. Some features may require a paid subscription. The features, price and billing period of each plan are shown in the app before you buy.
5.1 Billing
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), under their payment terms. We never see your card details. Prices may include or exclude taxes as shown by the store.
5.2 Free trials
If a free trial is offered, its length is shown before you start it. Your subscription begins and you are charged at the end of the trial unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Apple and Google decide trial eligibility; usually only one trial per person is available.
5.3 Automatic renewal
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price, and you are charged automatically through your store account, until you cancel. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends to avoid the next charge. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period, and you keep access until then.
- iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
- Android: Play Store → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
Deleting the app or your account does not cancel a subscription. California residents: this section is our automatic renewal disclosure. Questions about it can go to support@monkjournal.app or the postal address in section 1.
5.4 Price changes
We will give you at least 30 days’ notice of a price increase, in the app or by email. Apple and Google may also ask you to confirm. If you do not want to pay the new price, cancel before it applies.
5.5 Refunds
Refunds for App Store and Google Play purchases are handled by Apple and Google under their policies; we cannot issue them directly.
- Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com
- Google Play: Play Store → Payments & subscriptions → Budget & history, or Google Play refund help
If you are a consumer in the EU, EEA or UK, you may have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal for digital purchases. If you ask for immediate access to paid features and acknowledge that you lose the right of withdrawal once access starts, that right may no longer apply. Mandatory consumer rights are not affected by these Terms.
5.6 One-time and lifetime offers
If we offer a one-time or “lifetime” purchase, the terms shown at the point of purchase apply to it. “Lifetime” means the lifetime of the Monk Journal service, not of the purchaser.
6. Acceptable use
When using Monk Journal you agree not to:
- break the law or infringe anyone else’s rights, or upload content that is illegal;
- harass, threaten or harm anyone;
- reverse-engineer, decompile or try to extract the source code, except where the law gives you a right to do so;
- probe, scan or test the security of our systems without our written permission, or interfere with or overload the Service, including by scraping or automated access;
- introduce malware, send spam or use the Service for other abuse;
- bypass paywalls, share paid access between unrelated people, or otherwise game subscriptions;
- resell or redistribute content from the Service (such as the food database, workout programs or journal prompts) outside personal use;
- use the Service to build a competing product or train a competing AI model.
If you break these rules we may suspend or close your account. For serious abuse, such as illegal content or attacks on our systems, we may act immediately.
7. Not medical advice
Monk Journal is a self-tracking tool. Features about health, fitness, nutrition, sleep, mood or behaviour are for information only. They are not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, clinical nutrition counselling or therapy, and they do not replace a qualified professional.
If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, are recovering from an injury, have a history of eating disorders, or are otherwise in a situation where calorie targets, weight tracking, intense training or focus restrictions could harm you, talk to a qualified healthcare professional before acting on anything in the app. We do not promise any particular health, fitness, weight, mood or productivity result.
In an emergency, contact your local emergency services. In the US you can call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline); in the EU dial 112; in the UK dial 999 or call Samaritans on 116 123.
8. Availability and changes
We work to keep Monk Journal available, but we cannot promise uninterrupted service. We may take it offline for maintenance, upgrades or urgent fixes, and we will give notice of planned downtime when we can.
We may add, change or remove features. If we remove a feature that materially reduces the value of an active paid subscription, we will tell you in advance.
9. Ending your use
9.1 By you
You can stop using Monk Journal at any time. You can export your data in Settings → Export your data and delete your account in Settings → Delete account. Your account is deactivated immediately and permanently deleted after 7 days, as described in our Privacy Policy. Remember to cancel any subscription in your store settings.
9.2 By us
We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, if your use creates legal risk for us or other users, if the law requires it, or if we shut down the Service (section 10). Unless immediate action is needed (for example illegal content or a security threat), we will give you reasonable notice and a chance to export your data.
When your account ends, your licence to use the Service ends. Sections that by their nature should continue (such as 4, 11 to 15 and 18) continue to apply.
10. If we shut down the service
If we decide to discontinue Monk Journal, we will give you at least 60 days’ notice by email and in the app. During that time you will still be able to export your data, and active paid subscriptions will be prorated and the unused portion refunded through Apple or Google.
11. Our intellectual property
The Monk Journal app, name and logo, design, source code, built-in workout programs, journal prompts and other materials belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial self-tracking, under these Terms. All other rights are reserved. Open-source components in the app are covered by their own licences.
12. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that data such as food values will always be accurate. Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions, so some of them may not apply to you.
13. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data or goodwill, even if we were told they were possible;
- our total liability for all claims relating to the Service or these Terms is limited to the greater of US$100 or the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
We are not responsible for failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as natural disasters, war, government action, internet or power outages, or failures of third-party providers.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including where consumer law (for example in the EU or UK) does not allow it. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.
14. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to compensate us for claims, losses and reasonable legal costs arising from your breach of these Terms, your content, or your violation of the law or of someone else’s rights. This section does not apply to consumers where the law does not allow it.
15. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
If you live in the EU, EEA, UK or another country whose consumer law gives you rights that cannot be waived by agreement, you keep those rights, and you may bring a claim in the courts of the country where you live.
Talk to us first. If you have a complaint, please email legal@monkjournal.app (or support@monkjournal.app for product issues) with a description of the problem and what you would like us to do. We will reply within 14 days and try in good faith to resolve it informally before either of us starts formal proceedings.
16. Apple and Google terms
If you downloaded Monk Journal from the Apple App Store:
- These Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- Your licence is limited to using the app on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as allowed by the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, including Family Sharing where applicable.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for maintenance and support of the app.
- If the app fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for any claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, consumer protection, privacy or similar claims, and claims that it infringes someone’s intellectual property.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
If you downloaded Monk Journal from Google Play, your use is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service, and Google handles refunds for Google Play purchases under its policies.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms, for example when we add features or plans or when the law changes. For material changes we will notify you in the app or by email at least 30 days before they take effect. If you keep using the Service after that, the updated Terms apply. If you do not agree, stop using the Service and delete your account before the change takes effect. Minor changes such as clarifications and typo fixes update the “Last updated” date. Previous versions are available on request.
18. General

- Severability: if part of these Terms is found invalid, the rest stays in force.
